Appointment to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission 29 November

The Morrison Government has appointed Ms Liza Carver as a full‑time member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for a five‑year period starting 1 March 2022.

The ACCC has responsibility for enforcing the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and a range of additional legislation, promoting competition and fair trading, and regulating national infrastructure for the benefit of all Australians.

Ms Carver is one of Australia’s leading competition law experts with over 25 years of experience having worked on some of Australia’s leading and most complex competition law cases.

Ms Carver is currently a Partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, where she is a senior competition law and regulatory specialist. She was previously the Joint Global Practice Head, Competition, at Ashurst and a partner at Gilbert + Tobin. She is a former Commissioner of the Australian Energy Markets Commission and former Associate Commissioner of the ACCC.

The appointment of Ms Carver contributes to the high level of skills and experience at the ACCC.
