Aquatics at The Rex during Covid recovery phase

The Barossa Council are pleased to be working with Belgravia Leisure to prepare The Rex aquatic facilities for a safe re-opening under Step 2 of the SA Government’s ‘Roadmap for Recovery’ plan.

During the pandemic enforced closure of the facility Council have been undertaking maintenance works, including the pool air conditioning, deck and tiling, upgraded LED lighting to the fitness centre and toilets, repainting and deep cleaning. The second aquatic all access chair is also now available and customers will be able to make full use of the additional accessible parking.

While the good news of an earlier than expected reopening of the facility has been welcomed it does mean some of these maintenance works are still in progress.

Therefore, The Rex aquatic facilities will be reopening from Monday 9 June in a reduced and staged capacity.

The leisure pool will be fully operational, including recommencement of the Learn to Swim programs, “We are excited to be welcoming back over 80% of our swim program members, and thank them for their confidence in us,” said Ms Jo Thomas, Director Corporate and Community Services.

However under the State Government restrictions, shower and change room facilities must remain closed to maintain a Covid-Safe environment, and patrons may notice a change in the ambient temperature within the pool hall area over the coming weeks as the air conditioning works are completed. Although the air temperature may be effected, the works will not have any adverse effects in terms of air quality and safety.

Additionally, the lap pool will also remain closed at this time so that necessary retiling works can be completed during June and July to ensure a high level of quality and safety.

“We acknowledge this news will be frustrating to swimmers in our community and we had certainly hoped the tiling works would have been further advanced before the easing of restrictions was brought forward, but rest assured we are working with contractors to reopen the lap pool as soon as possible and will provide further updates on timings in the coming weeks,” said Ms Thomas.
