Architect appointed to design new sports hall at Ocean Reef Senior High School

  • Architect appointed for $5 million construction of new sports hall at Ocean Reef SHS
  • New facility for more than 1,200 students
  • Projects will help boost the construction industry and create local jobs
  • Construction expected to start in late 2021
  • Western Australian architectural firm Cox has been chosen to design Ocean Reef Senior High School’s new $5 million sports hall.

The state-of-the-art sports facility will be part of the Major School Upgrade package and will be constructed next to the school’s newly built performing arts centre.

The new hall will include sports courts, change rooms, toilets and equipment storage space, and will allow the school to cater for growing enrolments and relieve the pressure on existing physical education facilities.

The upgrade will create around 18 jobs with construction expected to start in late 2021 and be completed by late 2022.

This project is part of the McGowan Government’s $492 million commitment to modernise Western Australian public schools over the next four years under the WA Recovery Plan.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“Physical education is vital to every child’s education and I have no doubt this brand new sporting facility will be a huge asset to the school.

“I’m so pleased this investment will mean staff, students and their families will be able to enjoy these modern facilities for years to come.

“Not only is this wonderful for Ocean Reef Senior High School, the major school upgrade package is also serving to help drive economic and social recovery across the State, and create jobs for Western Australians.”

As stated by Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton:

“It’s exciting to have another major project being delivered for Ocean Reef Senior High School, in addition to the recently opened performing arts centre.

“It’s important for local students to have access to a world-class education here in WA and that includes access to high-quality facilities.

“That’s why the McGowan Government is continuing to invest significantly in quality infrastructure at Ocean Reef Senior High School.”
