Queenscliff Library to offer 24-hour borrowing with new locker system

Borough of Queenscliffe residents will soon be able to borrow and return library items 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a new 18-locker system at Queenscliff Library.

The project is supported by $28,660 in funding from the Victorian Government through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, making it easier for residents to access books, DVDs and other library resources at a time that suits them.

Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant MP visited Queenscliff Library to announce the funding, joined by Geelong Regional Libraries CEO David Semmens, Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Donnie Grigau and Council CEO Jane Grover

Once installed, the lockers will allow residents with a free Geelong Regional Libraries membership to reserve items and have them delivered to a locker for convenient collection. Items can also be returned at any time, offering greater flexibility beyond the library’s staffed opening hours.

“Libraries are free, local and open to everyone. Now Queenscliff locals can borrow on their own schedule,” Alison Marchant MP said.

Mayor Grigau welcomed the addition, highlighting the convenience the lockers will bring to the community.

“The library locker will be a valuable addition to Queenscliff Library, providing a simple and convenient way to access reserved materials beyond staffed opening hours,” Mayor Grigau said.

Isabelle Tolhurst, Geelong Regional Library Corporation Board representative for the Borough of Queenscliffe, also welcomed the announcement.

“We know how much our community loves their library in Queenscliff, so this grant and the new library locker will provide greater access and flexibility, helping people engage with the service they value,” Ms Tolhurst said.

Council will share further updates as this project progresses.
