NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government has secured another major sporting event, with the 2027 Super Netball Grand Final set to come to Sydney for the first time since the Super Netball competition began.

The 2027 Super Netball Grand Final is expected to attract more than 8,000 visitors to Sydney and inject more than $4 million into the NSW visitor economy, supporting hotels, restaurants, pubs, retailers and local jobs.

The match will also showcase Sydney to a national broadcast audience, building excitement ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup, which will be held exclusively in Sydney in August and September.

Sydney will host the biggest Netball World Cup in history, with 16 of the world’s best teams competing across 64 matches. Organisers are targeting more than 200,000 attendees as the Australian Diamonds look to defend their 2023 world title.

The Minns Labor Government is also investing in the future of the sport through the $1.5 million Netball World Cup Legacy Program, helping players, coaches and officials across NSW benefit from hosting the tournament and supporting more people to participate in netball.

The 2027 Super Netball Grand Final adds to NSW’s blockbuster 2027 sporting calendar, which includes the Netball World Cup, Men’s Rugby World Cup, UFC Fight Night, Rugby Nations Championship, Bathurst 1000, TCS Sydney Marathon and the New Year’s Test Match.

The Super Netball Grand Final is proposed to take place on Saturday 31 July at Afterpay Arena, Sydney Olympic Park.

Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns said:

“Netball is one of the biggest participation sports in NSW, with thousands of kids and adults taking to the court every week, and it deserves the same attention and support we give our other major sports.

“For too long, we haven’t invested enough in netball and we’re working to change that – from grassroots facilities and participation right through to bringing the biggest events in the sport to NSW.”

“2027 is shaping up to be an incredible year of sport for NSW, and securing the Super Netball Grand Final gives fans another great opportunity to see the best players in the country competing right here in Sydney.”

Minister for Jobs and Tourism and Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:

“Netball is one of Australia’s most loved sports, and bringing the Super Netball Grand Final to Sydney for the first time is a major win for fans and our visitor economy.

“The Minns Labor Government is securing the big events that bring people to NSW. More fans through the gates means more visitors in our hotels, more customers in our restaurants and more business for our shops and tourism operators.

“With the Super Netball Grand Final and the Netball World Cup on the calendar, Sydney will be the centre of the netball world in 2027.

Chair of Netball Australia, Liz Ellis AO said:

“Bringing the Super Netball Grand Final to Sydney in 2027 is a fantastic moment for our game and a celebration of the incredible passion for netball across New South Wales and the country.”

“The Grand Final is the pinnacle event on our calendar. It showcases the very best athletes in the world competing on the biggest stage, and Sydney will provide a spectacular backdrop for players, members, fans and partners to come together and celebrate everything that makes our game so special.

“I’m thrilled to see our sport’s showpiece event heading to one of Australia’s great sporting cities. Sydney has a rich history of hosting world-class events and creating unforgettable sporting moments, and I have no doubt the netball community will embrace this opportunity with enormous enthusiasm.

“This is also about more than one match. It’s about inspiring the next generation of netballers, creating lasting memories for fans, and continuing to grow the profile and reach of Super Netball.

“We look forward to welcoming supporters from every corner of Australia to Sydney for what promises to be an outstanding Grand Final week in 2027.”
