Armstrong Street food and retail precinct a success

– City of Ballarat Acting Development and Planning Director James Guy

The Armstrong Street food and retail precinct has been very successful. The upgraded streetscape design developed over the past few years has encouraged an increase in alfresco dining making the street a very attractive proposition for food vendors.

It is great to see the ongoing re-investment in the precinct by businesses and property owners who have the confidence to continue improving the offering and experience of the area. Armstrong Street North precinct is a great example of Council and business working together to create the vibrant and active streets that are requested and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

– City of Ballarat Infrastructure and Environment Director Terry Demeo

There has been no concerns with the GovHub constructions works. However, the City of Ballarat is aware of recent power constraints which are causing concern to some businesses. Powercor, who is responsible for managing Ballarat’s power infrastructure, is seeking to upgrade supply in the area and City of Ballarat is working with them to provide street infrastructure access to allow them to complete immediate works.

It is understood Powercor will be undertaking these works as soon as possible.

There will be some inconvenience in relation to parking and street access as a result of these power upgrades. City of Ballarat is liaising closely with Powercor to ensure traders receive specific advice in advance of works commencing, and the disruption is minimised. Understanding is requested from both traders and patrons who may be temporarily impacted by these short term works.

Council manages the immediate on street parking in Armstrong Street North and is working with the State Government to provide extra parking near the GovHub site in accordance with a funding agreement with the State Government for Council to deliver these additional parks.

This includes improvement to on street parking opportunities and off street options, with the Creswick Road car park being the largest of these off street options to be delivered.
