Arncliffe Youth Centre Officially Opened: Bayside

Bayside Mayor Joe Awada officially opened the Arncliffe Youth Centre on Saturday 15 May 2021.

“The Arncliffe Youth Centre is a great example of what can be achieved when Council engages with the local community and works with developers to deliver not only a modern residential and commercial hub, but also a community facility,” said Mayor Joe Awada.

“The need for an all-inclusive Youth Centre was identified by Council several years ago. It was acknowledged that we needed a safe space where young people from all walks of life could engage in sporting activities as well as educational programs that develop a strong sense of self-worth.”

The soft launch program last month gave local youth the opportunity to try a range of activities and services that will be part of this state-of-the-art facility. It was a resounding success.

Organisations already running programs from the Centre include:

  • 3 Bridges Community Services – community programs
  • St George Community Housing – a weekly multisport program
  • Southern Sydney Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service – weekly outreach for women and their children with information.
  • Al Zahra College and J.J. Cahill Memorial High School – school P.E.
  • Moorefield Girls High – workshops and leadership training from the Centre.

Council will be managing this Centre which will operate 7 days per week and is working towards providing an integrated drop-in service to address a range of issues including:

  • Peer relationships and Social expectations
  • Jobs, employment and education
  • Mental health, depression, anxiety, bullying, self-esteem
  • Drugs and alcohol, including smoking
  • Puberty
  • Health and fitness
