Arrest – Aggravated Assaults – Alice Springs

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for assaulting 4 people with a crutch and one count of assaulting a police officer in Alice Springs late yesterday afternoon.

About 5.20pm a Point of Sale Intervention (POSI) member located at a Northside business reported that he had been approached by an injured male, with a large open wound to his left forearm.

The injured 73-year-old man stated that he had been struck with an underarm walking crutch by a man who is known to him.

Immediate first aid was applied by the POSI member to control the bleeding.

Northern Territory Police attended the scene and located the offender in the Todd River and arrested him soon after.

Three more victims were subsequently identified as being assaulted by the offender at the same time.

Two 52-year-old women and a 48-year-old male also reported that the offender, who is known to them, struck them with the crutch and punched them.

The 73-year-old male victim and one of the 52-year-old women were taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

While the alleged offender was being processed into the Alice Springs Watch House he kicked a Northern Territory Police officer.
