Arrest – Aggravated burglary – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested 3 youths after an aggravated burglary in Alice Springs overnight.

Around 1:20am, police received reports that 3 male youths had unlawfully entered a residence on Telegraph Terrace, Alice Springs.

The youths allegedly stole a number of small items before they were confronted by a 80-year-old female resident. One of the youths allegedly threw a rock at the victim, striking her in the face, before all the offenders fled the scene.

The woman was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

Officers from Strike Force Viper, Operation Drina and the Drone Unit deployed into the area and 3 males, aged 11, 13 and 13, were located nearby.

Both 13-year-olds remain in custody and are expected to be charged later today.

The 11-year-old was conveyed home to a responsible adult and a referral made to the Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Marcus Becker said “This was a confronting, violent attack on a vulnerable member of our community and we wish her a full recovery.

“Detectives urge anyone with information, particularly if you have CCTV, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10518978.”
