Arrest – Aggravated robbery – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 32-year-old male in relation to an aggravated robbery at a business in Alice Springs yesterday.

At 7.45pm, police received reports of an aggravated robbery at a business on Todd Street. The offender had allegedly been asked to leave the site by an employee, after which he proceeded to damage the employee’s vehicle outside.

The employee engaged with the offender, during which he was allegedly punched and kicked by the offender multiple times, and also assaulted with a blunt weapon. The offender proceeded to steal the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

A coordinated response from Operation Grimmel members, CCTV operators, and general duties officers resulted in the 32-year-old male offender being located and arrested a short time later.

The 69-year-old male victim suffered injuries to his head and chest, and was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

The offender remains in custody and is expected to be charged later today.
