Arrest – Domestic and family violence – Central Australia

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a domestic and family violence incident that occurred in a Central Australian community on Sunday evening.

Around 11pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received multiple reports of a man being assaulted by another man.

The victim had allegedly been seriously injured and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries to his head at a local medical clinic. A vehicle had also allegedly been driven through a fence and a firearm had allegedly been produced. The firearm was not discharged.

All involved are believed to be known to each other.

Police responded and identified the offender. He was arrested and remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs local court today.

Police commenced investigations, and as a result of proactive community engagement by local sworn and unsworn officers, the firearm was surrendered to local police yesterday. Police would like to thank members of the community for their assistance.

Investigations are ongoing.

If you or someone you know are experiencing difficulties due to domestic violence, support services are available, including, but not limited to, 1800RESPECT (1800737732) or Lifeline 131 114.
