Arrest made after Ferndale home burglary

On Tuesday 26 December 2023, Cannington Detectives charged a 24-year-old man after he was disturbed in the rear yard of a house in Ferndale.

It will be alleged between 8pm and 8.15pm, the man entered the home, disturbing the 83-year-old resident.

The man allegedly stole various personal items before fleeing the home and jumping neighbouring fences.

He was apprehended after a short foot chase with officers from Cannington Police station with the alleged stolen items located next to him.

Detectives wish to thank members of the public who assisted in providing timely information to them in relation to this incident.

The 24-year-old man from Leda has been charged with:

• Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit;

• Stealing;

• Burglary with Intent;

• Steal Motor Vehicle; and

• Common Assault in Circumstances of Aggravation.

He was refused bail and is remanded in custody until 15 January 2024 when he will appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court.

Detectives were able to return the stolen items to the relieved 83-year-old victim.
