Arsenal seized during FPO search in Sydney’s west

A man will face court today and a number of firearms have been seized following two Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) searches in western Sydney yesterday.

About 6.30am yesterday (Tuesday 14 May 2019), officers from Operation Talon served an FPO on a 39-year-old Horsley Park man, before conducting FPO searches of properties at Horsley Park and Greystanes with the assistance of South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad and Cumberland Police Area Command.

During the search at the Greystanes home, police located three SKS semi-automatic rifles, an SKS-style assault rifle, a pump-action shotgun, various firearms parts, about 2000 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, and items and chemicals consistent with manufacture of prohibited drugs.

Officers also located four ballistic vests, two of which were stolen police-issued vests. Inquiries revealed one was stolen from the Hawkesbury area in 1999, and the other from the New England region in 2010.

Another 39-year-old man was spoken to at the Greystanes property before being arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.

He was charged with five counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, six counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, possess more than three unregistered firearms, one is prohibited/pistol; and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

The Greystanes man was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Tuesday 15 May 2019).

Inquiries are continuing.
