Art Gallery launches 2020 program with renowned drawing prize exhibition

Griffith Regional Art Gallery will launch its 2020 program with the theme The Figure and the Face to coincide with its first exhibition of the year, JADA the 2018 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, on Friday 17 January 2020 at 6pm.

Manager of Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Raina Savage said, “We are kicking off the year with two fabulous events rolled into one. We are launching our 2020 Exhibition Program The Figure and the Face to give our audience a sneak peek at what is in store for the rest of 2020. And we are also opening our first exhibition of the year, the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, so it will be a great night out for lovers of Australian art.”

Griffith Regional Art Gallery Coordinator, Ray Wholohan said, “The JADA is Australia’s richest regional drawing award which aims to encourage and promote innovation and excellence in drawing. It plays a vital role in fostering Australian drawing practice and attracts some of Australia’s leading artists who work in the medium of drawing.”

“The JADA celebrates the art of drawing in all its splendour – from incredible hyper-realism to the expressive and the abstract, evoking poetic and emotional responses to the human condition and our environment. Many of the works in the exhibition challenge traditional notions of drawing; while others provide a contemporary perspective and reinvigorate those same traditions,” said Mr Wholohan.

Visitors to the event will be able to pick up a free copy of the Gallery’s 2020 Exhibition brochure, and enjoy free nibbles and wines by McWilliams Family Wines.

The Gallery will launch its 2020 Program The Figure and the Face along with the opening of the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award at Griffith Regional Art Gallery on Friday 17January 2020 at 6pm. All welcome.
