The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) is today celebrating International Women’s Day, recognising the important contribution of women in the trucking industry.
The ATA represents the 50,000 businesses and 211,500 people in the Australian trucking industry and acknowledges the value strong and hard-working bring to trucking.
“In honour of International Women’s Day, we want to take this moment to appreciate the women who have paved the way for us today,” President and Founder of the US Women in Trucking Association, Ellen Voie, said today.
Ms Voie is joining the ATA’s Trucking Australia 2019 conference in Perth this April as a keynote speaker.
“Women have been driving trucks, fixing trucks, owning trucks and have helped move the goods for many years and we need to recognise these pioneers for their strength, their determination and their leadership.
“We salute these women and thank them for their years of service as role models,” she said.
The ATA is also very pleased to welcome one of Western Australia’s leading business executives and a passionate advocate for gender equity, Diane Smith-Gander, to the Trucking Australia 2019 program, as keynote of the Brighter Business Lunch. Brighter is an initiative of APPEA, and exists to champion stories surrounding natural gas in in everyday life.
The ATA is a strong advocate for equal opportunity and gender diversity and are proud to see female representatives in industry initiatives such as the Daimler Truck and Bus Future Leaders’ Forum.
2018 Daimler Future Leader Coralie Chapman and 2019 Future Leader Bethany Magill will join Ms Voie, Ms Smith-Gander and a host of expert female speakers at Trucking Australia 2019, presenting on policy, safety, industry image and attraction, fatigue management and truck laws.
Among the expert speakers is Chair of Transport Women Australia, Jacquelene Brotherton, and Americold’s Jodie Broadbent, a prominent industry voice.
“It is wonderful to see so many professional women leading the way and offering their expertise on important industry issues,” former ATA Chair Noelene Watson said.
“As role models, these women have a positive influence on encouraging others to be involved in the transport industry,” she said.
Trucking Australia 2019 will also see the presentation of the National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year award. Nominations for this award close at midnight on 8 March.
“This prestigious award recognises the strong professional or personal contribution made by a woman within the Australian trucking industry,” Mrs Watson said.
“I encourage people to acknowledge the hardworking women making a difference by nominating today,” she said.
