Attempted drug importation from Canada

As a result of positive cooperation with Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP), detectives from the Drug and Firearm Squad and Meth Transport Team, have charged two people after an operation targeting the importation of Methylamphetamine from Canada.

This operation began after ABF officers seized approximately 989g of meth allegedly concealed in the floor of a cardboard box intercepted at an air cargo depot on Monday 18 November 2019.

The investigation resulted in search warrants being executed at residences on Boyare Avenue, Mirrabooka Avenue and Nelligan Avenue in Balga.

It will be alleged approximately $4500 and other items of interest to the investigation were seized during the searches.

A 33-year-old Balga man has been charged with one count of Attempt to Possess a Prohibited Drug with Intent to Sell/Supply (Meth).

He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court yesterday, 22 November 2019 and is next due to appear on 13 December 2019.

A 57-year-old Mirrabooka man has been charged with:-

• One count of Attempt to Possess a Prohibited Drug with Intent to Sell/Supply (MDMA) and,

• One count of Possess Stolen or Unlawfully Obtained Property (Cash).

He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court yesterday, 22 November 2019 and is next due to appear on 13 December 2019.
