Escape the cold this August and get involved with activities run by the National Library. Highlights include your chance to learn how to add Trove links to Wikipedia as part of Library and Information Week (31 July to 6 August), a lecture from the world’s leading Shakespeare scholar, a discussion panel about the experience of women in Australian sport, and a screening of an award-winning documentary.
We will also be sharing some Book Week costume ideas on our social media channels in the lead up to Book Week (19-25 August 2023).

- Pakie’s Club: A modern arts salon in interwar Sydney with Dr Deirdre O’Connell

Join Dr Deirdre O’Connell as she presents a lecture on her 2023 National Library Fellowship research about the extraordinary influence of Augusta ‘Pakie’ Macdougall, who brought suffragist activism, Greenwich Village’s salon culture, and the Little Theatre movement to interwar Sydney.
- Shakespeare’s First Folio: From London to Australia and many points in between

Listen to a special lecture from visiting University of Oxford academic Professor Emma Smith, the world’s leading Shakespeare scholar. Professor Smith will be giving a talk on Shakespeare’s First Folio as part of its 400-year anniversary.

Come and hear a conversation about the experiences of women in Australian sport with Holly Ferling, Michelle Heyman, Vanessa Low and facilitated by Anthea Moodie.
