Australia announces new Consul-General in Makassar 16 June

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Todd Dias as Australia’s next Consul-General in Makassar, Indonesia.

Australia’s relationship with Indonesia is one of our closest and most important. We share a vision for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership reflects a mutual commitment to strengthen our work together.

Our long history of friendship and cooperation began centuries ago on the sea routes between eastern Indonesia and northern Australia, where the Yolngu people traded with the people of Makassar.

Australia and Indonesia also share a close economic partnership, built on the foundations of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 will also bolster two-way trade and investment.

The Consulate-General in Makassar plays an important role in advancing Australia’s economic engagement in eastern Indonesia, a region with a population of over 32 million people, while also supporting consular and development objectives.

Mr Dias is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and has previously served overseas in Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

I thank outgoing Consul-General Bronwyn Robbins for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Makassar since 2020.
