Australia announces new High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago 20 December

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Sonya Koppe as Australia’s next High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago.

Ms Koppe will also be accredited to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, The Bahamas and the Caribbean Community.

Australia shares enduring friendships with the countries of the Caribbean, based on historical, sporting, social and political ties, as well as the pursuit of common interests.

Ms Koppe is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, Ukraine Section.

She has previously served overseas as Deputy Head of Mission in South Africa and Sri Lanka, as well as postings in Geneva and The Hague.

I thank outgoing High Commissioner Bruce Lendon for his contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in the Caribbean since 2019.
