Australia appoints new ambassador to Portugal 30 September

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Indra McCormick as Australia’s next Ambassador to Portugal.

Ms McCormick will also be accredited to Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, and Sao-Tome and Principe.

Australia’s warm and productive relationship with Portugal is based on our strong community links, shared values and a common commitment to democracy, human rights and the international rules-based order.

Australia’s trade and investment relationship with Portugal is growing. We are working to enhance our commercial relationship though the negotiations of a double taxation treaty and the Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement.

Ms McCormick is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Director, Cabinet Liaison and Strategy Section.

She has previously served overseas in the Netherlands, New Zealand and Indonesia.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Claire Rochecouste for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Portugal since 2019.
