Australia celebrates second internationally certified Master Advertising Specialist

Turnkey Promotions

MAS is an earned certification signifying an exemplary commitment to the promotional products profession. MAS candidates have been certified by Promotional Products Association International since 1979 in all 50 U.S. States and in more than 15 countries around the world. Certification requires a minimum three years’ experience in the promotional products industry, 40 dedicated courses with quizzes and 70 elective education sessions.

PPAI has awarded Sydney’s Diana O’Cobhthaigh, owner of Turnkey Promotions with the coveted MAS certification. The title was presented on the 27th of May 2020 through a private online ceremony. O’Cobhthaigh is the second Australian recipient to receive this globally recognised designation and it showcases a turn in the promotional products industry within Australia.

The promotional products sector is a $24 billion-dollar worldwide industry but is often jumbled into advertising and/or marketing with limited options for higher learning and specialised designations. The Australasian Promotional Products Association has partnered with PPAI making these advanced education opportunities easier to access for Australians seeking business excellence and continued professional growth in this sector.

Those with this certification become industry role models helping to advance the promotional products industry, improve product safety and compliance, and promote a higher standard of professional competence. MAS Certification is maintained through continued education to ensure current knowledge and leading-edge professional skills. Title holders must complete 30 additional course credits every three years to keep their certifications active.

“This is a massive milestone in my career and for the industry in Australia. I have already started promoting the MAS program and recruiting peers. I am a strong proponent of education and awareness for everyone in my industry” reflected O’Cobhthaigh.

Wesley Fawaz, CEO of the local association APPA, stated that: “It is truly incredible to have another professional in our industry receive this certification. I hope this encourages others to follow and we congratulate Diana for all of her dedication and hard work.”

MAS professionals do not react to what a brand needs, they enhance and protect it. The rigorous curriculum required includes an overview of the promotional products industry, promotional programs, best practices/supplier-distributor relations, advertising and marketing overview, product safety and business ethics. The program challenges branded merchandise professionals to adopt policies matching large retailers within their supply chain. This includes keeping products safe for children and adhering to both local and global product requirements.

The promotional products medium is an essential element in the marketing communications mix. A “branded” tangible product turns an ordinary message into a marketing experience an audience can see, touch, hear, smell and even taste. Promotional products are one of the most efficient and effective media buys within the advertising industry.
