Australia Day celebrates Liverpool’s cultural diversity and community spirit

Liverpool City Council’s much-loved Australia Day event at Woodward Park featured a fantastic line-up of entertainment, with people from all walks of life coming together to celebrate.

“Australia Day highlights the multicultural fabric of our growing city, one of our greatest strengths, with a line-up of fantastic international cuisine and entertainment for all,” Mayor Waller said.

“Thousands joined us at our Australia Day celebration, which is special to so many, in particular the many migrants and refugees who have proudly come to call Liverpool home.”

Council’s free community celebration was held at Woodward Park from 5pm-10pm on Sunday 26 January, with people treated to live entertainment, international cuisine, rides, games and more.

Attendees also dug deep to help Council and its fundraising partner, the Rotary Club of Liverpool, to raise funds for the NSW Rural Fire Service. Combined with Council’s donation of $20,000 and fundraising at Light Up the Lake, close to $23,000 will go to the NSW Rural Fire Service, assisting them to provide essential services during this summer’s extreme bushfire season.

“Liverpool is the face of multicultural Australia and our annual Australia Day event exemplifies our community spirit, as well as our success as a city in which people from all walks of life can live together peacefully,” Mayor Waller said.

“I wish to personally thank everyone who donated to our collection for the NSW Rural Fire Service and appreciate all who joined us to celebrate Australia Day.”

Council wishes to thank Channel 10, Exclusive TV Partner, for their support of Australia Day.
