Cyber professionals have a new opportunity to contribute directly to Australia’s national security through Defence’s Cyber Reserve Force, a specialist workforce designed to bring world-class cyber expertise into Defence.
Established in just 12 months, the Cyber Reserve Force is a key outcome of the 2023 Defence Strategic Review of the Australian Defence Force Reserve, creating a new capability that enables Defence to access specialist cyber expertise from across industry, government and academia.
Cyber Reserve Force personnel will bring contemporary skills from their day-to-day roles, enabling Defence to access expertise across cyber operations, artificial intelligence, network engineering, cloud security, digital forensics, incident response, threat intelligence and cyber strategy.
The Force will also enhance Defence’s cyber capability by providing specialist advice, technical expertise, operational support and surge capacity, while strengthening links with Australia’s broader cyber ecosystem.
Defence is seeking experienced cyber professionals to apply their skills in service of national security. Through a new entry pathway that recognises skills, experience and demonstrated capability, the Cyber Reserve Force reduces barriers for experienced professionals while maintaining Defence standards.
The appointment of the first direct-entry Cyber Reserve Force member marks a significant milestone in building a specialist workforce that will strengthen Defence’s cyber capability, deepen engagement with industry and enhance Australia’s national security.
