Australian foreign minister to visit Geneva

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

This week I will travel to Switzerland to advance Australia’s interests on human rights and disarmament. I will address the High Level Segments of both the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament.

I will demonstrate Australia’s commitment to the multilateral human rights system and our support for advancing human rights globally by addressing the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Australia played an important role in the creation of the multilateral human rights system and we must work with partners to uphold it.

I will also address the Conference on Disarmament to highlight Australia’s commitment to the global non-proliferation and disarmament regime.

Australia’s representation at the Conference on Disarmament is especially relevant one year on from Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine and reinforces the Australian Government’s commitment to strengthening the non-proliferation regime.

My visit to Geneva will also be an opportunity to hold a number of bilateral meetings with Ministers from around the world, and continue to build relationships with a range of UN, civil society and other partners.
