Australian Taxpayers Demand Immediate and Clear Information on COVID-19

The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, the nation’s largest grassroots advocacy group representing taxpayers, and the HR Nicholls Society, Australia’s only institute solely devoted to reforming Australia’s Industrial Relations system and advocating for free-market policies have today joined forces to demand the federal government provide immediate, clear and easily accessible information to the Australian public.

“The mixed messaging from the Federal government and the different state government’s about business closures and other measures is causing untold economic harm” said Brian Marlow, Executive Director of the Australian Taxpayers Alliance. “One of the most disappointing things we have seen from governments at all levels is a gross lack of communication. Ordinary Australians are suffering and a lot of these issues could be solved with some prompt and well-directed messaging.”

John Gray, Executive Director of the HR Nicholls Society continues: “What we need is a central repository of information on what the government has done, is doing and intends to do. The Australian people are left in the dark in these troubling times, sparking fear and panic from the uncertainty. People’s lives have been thrown into chaos as a result of a lot of government measures, the very least they can do is provide clear and concise information that is easily obtained in one spot”

“The Australian people deserve better from their elected representatives. Now is not the time to be doing things behind closed doors; there must be full transparency of processes and measures being implemented that change people’s lives. We implore the government to make the right call and to ease some of the concern by giving full and frank information.”
