The Palaszczuk Government is celebrating a milestone for its employment program Back to Work in Townsville today: 20,000 jobs.
Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman met with one of Townsville’s newest Back to Work employees Aaron Gardiner, who has been employed as an apprentice at Townsville business, Cutlers Diesel Performance.
“This is a milestone to be celebrated, and our investment in this program is an example of our dedication to getting jobs for Queenslanders,” Ms Fentiman said.
“Aaron, who was unemployed for almost a year, is now looking forward to a bright future thanks to the support of the Queensland Government’s Youth Boost payment.”
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said more than 9,500 Queensland business owners have been supported to create more jobs through Back to Work.
“This is great news, and it’s fantastic to see almost 2500 people in Townsville have a job because of Back to Work,” Mr Stewart said.
“Cutlers Diesel is a big supporter of taking on apprentices since they opened two and a half years ago.
“And has taken on two apprentices through the Back to Work program.”
Employer Brendan Cutler said he employed his first apprentice 12 months ago because of the additional financial security the Back to Work program offered when the business was expanding and moving to larger premises.
The Minister said Back to Work payments had made an immeasurable difference in the lives of jobseekers and to the employers who have given them an opportunity.
“Every day I get to hear stories from across Queensland of how people have grown in confidence, learnt new skills and in some cases progressed even further in the business,” Ms Fentiman said.
“It’s great to see that one of Cutlers Diesel’s apprentices is just about to finish the Back to Work program and will continue on as a valued employee.”
“I encourage any employer out there, if you are considering taking on someone new for your business, then see if you are eligible for the Back to Work program.”
