Backing Victorians to safely recover, rebuild and move forward

Liberal Party Victoria

The Victorian Liberal Nationals today announce a new plan to give families, businesses and local communities the certainty and support they need to recover, rebuild and move forward.

For more than two years, Victorians across the state have suffered through the nation’s harshest restrictions and world’s longest lockdown.

Whilst Victorians have played their part and got vaccinated, the impact of living in fear and being told how to live their lives has been enormous.

Endless mandates, lockdowns and restrictions have fuelled community division, worsened Victorians mental health and compromised our future.

With over 93 per cent of Victorians fully vaccinated and fewer than 1 in every 2,000 COVID-19 cases currently requiring a ventilator, now is the time for a new approach.

Therefore, the Victorian Liberal Nationals are calling on the State Government to back Victorians to move forward by immediately;

Furthermore, to increase Victoria’s stalled booster rollout, the State Government must redirect major project advertising into a comprehensive vaccination advertising campaign.

Instead of a return to the control over daily lives of the last 24 months – now is time to sensibility move forward and trust the Victorian community to do what is right and what is safe.

As stated by Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:

“Victorians won’t recover and rebuild under more back-to-the-future mandates, lockdowns and restrictions. Now is the time for a new approach.

“For two years, families and local communities have trusted the system and followed the rules. Now is the time for the Government to trust them and let them get on with their lives.

“Victorians need a new approach that treats them with respect and backs them – not berates them – to make the right choices.”

As stated by Leader of The Nationals, Peter Walsh:

“Communities across regional Victoria have led from the front throughout the pandemic, and played their part when asked to roll up their sleeves.

“Regional Victorians can be trusted to continue to do the right thing by themselves, their families and their communities.

“We have all done what has been asked of us, and it now time to allow all Victorians recover and rebuild so we can make Victoria number one again.”
