A P Plater has been fined more than $1000 after allegedly being caught driving with his knees while buttering a bagel in Newtown earlier this week.
Around 3.50pm on 7 September, police allegedly observed the man driving a silver Honda HR-V along Tor Street while using his knees to steer the vehicle.
The vehicle was also found to be unregistered.
The 29-year-old Glenvale man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for driving without due care and attention and driving an unregistered vehicle resulting in a $1,104 fine and loss of three demerit points.
Darling Downs District Officer Acting Superintendent Kelly Hanlen said driving always requires a driver’s full attention.
“Taking your hands and focus away from the task of driving , even for something as seemingly harmless like preparing food, can have serious consequences,” Acting Superintendent Hanlen said.
“I want to remind motorists there is no meal, message or other distraction worth risking your safety or the safety of other road users.
“If you’re driving, keep your attention on the road and your hands where they belong – on the wheel.”
