Bailey calls for politicians’ pay freeze

Australian Conservatives Release

The Conservative Party’s Victorian Senate candidate Kevin Bailey has called for a cap on politicians’ and senior government executives’ wages until the national debt has been repaid.

Mr Bailey is supporting a demand from Conservatives’ leader Cory Bernardi that government wages be frozen and a debt limit be placed on the federal government so that our children and grandchildren won’t be saddled with paying off the reckless Labor and Coalition spending of the past decade.

Mr Bailey’s comments are in line with Senator Bernardi’s opening gambit when launching the Australian Conservatives in 2017 to make politicians accountable for their own decisions, detailing his plan for putting principle and policy ahead of personalities in federal politics.

In February last year Senator Bernardi tabled his bill to implement a debt limit of $600 billion on the federal government saying, “The plain fact of the matter is, we are witnessing intergenerational theft on a grand scale which will see our children, our grandchildren and their children struggling to pay back a debt which is growing faster than it can be repaid.”
