Ballarat Library to temporarily close next month for refurbishment

The Ballarat Library will close for two weeks in October as part of plans to make the space more user-friendly.

During the temporary closure, the library’s shelving will be updated, enhancing the layout of the collection to enable easier use.

The Doveton Street North library will close on Monday 14 October and re-open on Monday 28 October.

The Sebastopol Library, Wendouree Library and Library Outreach will remain open during this time.

“For this huge undertaking, we will need to close to our patrons for two weeks,” City of Ballarat Acting Community Development Director Pete Appleton said.

“We will be storing our collection while the current shelving is dismantled and the new shelving is assembled.”

“Our new non-fiction layout will be in subject areas, with lots of face-out display that encourages greater browsing and discovery of library resources.”

Preparation for the refurbishment began over 12 months ago and is just the beginning of many improvements at the Ballarat Library over the next two years.
