Ballarat-Maryborough Road Upgrades Underway

  • Minister for Roads

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with rebuilding works on Ballarat-Maryborough Road to deliver a smoother and more reliable journey for thousands of drivers each day.

Acting Minister for Roads, Road Safety and the TAC Jacinta Allan said the 1.5-kilometre section of road north of Miners Rest will be rebuilt, with the existing road surface to be removed and replaced with a newer, stronger surface.

This will complement rebuilding and strengthening works carried out on an adjoining three-kilometre section of road in early 2019, as the Labor Government’s regional road maintenance blitz continues to make roads smoother and safer for drivers and industry.

More than 370 kilometres of roads are being resurfaced, repaired and strengthened across western Victoria this maintenance season, thanks to the Government’s $425 million investment in regional road maintenance.

Through this investment, works are also set to kick off on repairs to a 460-metre section of Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road, north of the intersection with Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road. The road surface, previously cracked and ageing, will be replaced to better cater to rising traffic volumes.

Works will take place during daylight hours from Monday to Saturday and are expected to be completed by the end of the month, weather permitting.

Locals are advised that speed and lane restrictions may be in place around the clock to keep drivers and workers safe.
