Ballarat will join a State-wide campaign ‘Stronger Together’ to combat challenges arising from the Coronavirus outbreak.
Two of the city’s fountains at Lake Wendouree and Eureka Park, along with the face on the Ballarat Town Hall clock will be lit red on Friday, 21 February as a show of solidarity with our Chinese community.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor, said the City and its residents had a wonderful relationship with its Chinese community and the ‘Stronger Together’ campaign was a way to urge everyone around the State to come together in support.
“Lighting up our iconic landmarks and fountains is a small gesture, but one that sends a strong message that Ballarat stands beside its Chinese community at what is a difficult time for many,” he said.
As part of the campaign, some of Victoria’s most important buildings – including the Arts Centre, the Melbourne Museum, Melbourne Town Hall and Flinders Street Station – will be lit up in red and gold.
Ballarat will continue to showcase its reputation as a welcoming city for all nationalities during the Ballarat Harmony Fest, 12-27 March, which celebrates cultural diversity.
