Ballarat Youth Awards to be launched online

The 2020 City of Ballarat Youth Awards will be launched this year online via the Fully Sick Festival streamed on the Ballarat Youth Services Facebook page.

To find out how to nominate a young person, join the livestream https://www.facebook.com/ballaratyouthservices/at 4.30pm on Monday 15 June.

The online launch with Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor will showcase previous Youth Award winners, art, music and a poetry slam by young people.

It will feature 2020 Youth Award Ambassadors, Shon Dunn and Shelby Sherritt.

“With 20,000 people aged 12-25 living in Ballarat, the awards are an opportunity for the Ballarat people to recognise the valuable contribution that young people make to our community,” Cr Taylor said.

The awards ceremony will also be delivered online on 28 August.

“There are many ways young people contribute to our community – through sporting clubs, volunteering, playing music, developing artwork, student leadership initiatives, youth groups, religious groups and environmental activities, to name a few,” Cr Taylor said.

The 2020 Youth Awards will highlight and celebrate young achievers in 11 categories, ranging from the arts to sports, community group initiatives, and volunteer recognition.

The Youth Awards are an annual initiative of the Youth Council volunteers and encourage young people to continue adding to and improving the culture and livelihood of our community.

The awards are supported through a partnership of community agencies including Buninyong and District Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, Highlands LLEN, 99.9 Voice FM, Basketball Ballarat, Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts, YMCA, Upstart, Compassionate Ballarat, Western Bulldogs, Ballarat Tech School, Ballarat Foundation & Ballarat Youth Services Network (BYSN).
