Bargain Book Sale Returns To Library

Friends of the Library Mount Gambier will hold their annual Big Book Sale on Saturday 25 July 2026 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Mount Gambier Library. Donations of books, DVDs, board games and jigsaws in near new condition are currently being sought to support the event.

Proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into library resources, events and initiatives as part of the Friends’ annual fundraising effort.

“This treasure trove of pre-loved items is an ideal chance to snap up a bargain with thousands of books, DVDs and jigsaws – all for just a dollar or two. Whether you’re a bookworm, movie buff, puzzle fanatic, or just love a good bargain, there’s something for everyone at the Big Book Sale,” Acting Manager Library and Community Development. Ashleigh Whatling said.

“The book sale is always a popular event with customers lining up at the door before we open. Whether you’re after a hidden gem, a classic novel, or a stack of bedtime stories, the Friends of the Library Book Sale is not to be missed.”

With recent financial donations from Friends of the Library’s efforts including supporting the Big Summer Read launch program and activities that attracted over 250 children, as well as new youth furniture and equipment, the committee is hopeful for another successful sale and calling out for donations.

“To support the Big Book Sale we are calling out to the public for donations – all in excellent condition. It’s the perfect time to clear out that spare room or shelves that are overflowing,” Friends of the Library President Chris Lloyd said.

“Donations are kindly accepted at the Mount Gambier Library up until 5:30pm on Thursday 23 July 2026. This will give the committee of volunteers enough time to carefully sort and prepare all the items for sale. And remember, if you are considering donating, look at the item and ask yourself would you purchase it,” Ms Lloyd said.

Friends of the Library are also seeking new volunteers to join the committee. If you are interested, please speak with a Library staff member, or one of the Friends Committee at the Big Book Sale.

“Volunteering on the committee is a small time commitment that has a high impact on what our wonderful Library can offer,” Ms Lloyd said.
