Police intercepted 636 vehicles in a traffic operation on the Bass Highway at East Devonport yesterday.
Inspector Nick Clark said the operation should serve as an important reminder to motorists.
“We’re out on the roads every day enforcing our road rules to keep everyone in our community safe,” he said.
“Too often, especially this year, we have seen the devastating impact that serious and fatal crashes are having on our community.”
While the majority of motorists intercepted today were doing the right thing, Inspector Clark said that is not always the case.
“Unfortunately, we keep seeing the terrible outcomes that come from motorists making bad decisions,” he said.
“We really need individuals to play their part in making our roads safer.”
“We need all Tasmanians to stand with us in saying Enough is Enough when it comes to taking risks on our roads.”
“Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Slow down and drive to the conditions. Pay attention and be alert. Don’t drive while tired. Wear a seatbelt”
