Police in Brisbane’s bayside have closed a four-month operation targeting property crime with two men charged with more than 270 offences worth an estimated two million dollars in stolen property.
The operation, managed by the Bayside Crime Group with assistance from specialist units such as Centenary and Ipswich crime groups, PSRT and Polair focused on break-ins at small business where cigarettes, cash and ATMs were stolen.
Senior Sergeant Chris Lafferty, Bayside Crime Group, said offenders targeted mum and dad businesses, such as independent supermarkets, tobacconists, as well as after hours service stations, in the south east.
“Offences were committed in the Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast, Moreton and Ipswich areas and predominately occurred in the early hours of the morning.”
“Our operation, involving police from across much of SE Queensland, focused on finding similarities between the offences, identifying the key players and locating and arresting them.
“This was a significant property crime operation with stolen property and damage caused to businesses expected to exceed two million dollars.”
Detectives arrested the two main targets of Operation Tango Solar on Tuesday night in Pallara in an alleged stolen vehicle.
A 29-year-old Inala man charged was charged with 191 offences primarily enter premises and commit an indictable offence by break.
A 30-year-old Inala man was charged with 84 offences primarily for the same offences.
Both were denied police bail and appeared in the Cleveland and Brisbane Magistrates Courts yesterday morning where they were remanded in custody to re-appear again in late July.
