Hawkesbury City Council has adopted a Sustainability Policy, representing an important step in strengthening Council’s commitment to sustainability and ensuring environmental, social and economic considerations are embedded across all aspects of Council’s activities.
The Policy outlines five key principles to guide Council’s governance, processes and operations, including:
- Caring for Country
- Evidence Based
- Inter-generational equity
- Balanced consideration of environment, social and economic impacts and
- Valuing Biodiversity and Natural Capital
To support the principles of the Policy across whole of business, the Sustainability Policy ensures Council commits to:
- Corporate Sustainability
- Provision of facilities, services, resources and opportunities
- Sustainable growth and development
- Advocacy, education, collaboration and compliance
The Sustainability Policy has been developed following a review of sustainability policies adopted by other Greater Sydney councils, alongside consideration of sustainability best practice, Council’s existing Integrated Planning and Reporting framework, community feedback, and Hawkesbury City Council’s unique organisational structure and operational requirements.
