Bayswater evade police arrest

About 11.15pm, police received a report the stolen vehicle was sighted in the Bayswater area and just before midnight police sighted the vehicle travelling on Walter Road in Morley.

Police activated the emergency lights and siren on their vehicle and it is alleged the driver of the Commodore failed to stop and accelerated away heavily. The Commodore travelled through various streets before stopping on Mills Avenue near Coode Street in Bayswater.

It is alleged as a police vehicle approached the Commodore the driver reversed into the police car causing minor damage. A 15-year-old male passenger in the Commodore was taken into custody and later released without charge.

It is alleged as the male driver of the Commodore was removed from the vehicle, he struggled violently with police. One police officer required two stitches to his hand as a result of injuries he received during the arrest.

Police Dog Jack was deployed and it is alleged the male driver punched PD Jack to the head and face area which resulted in the man receiving a dog bite to his face and arm. The man was conveyed to hospital for treatment.

A 44-year-old man from Morley has been charged with:
• Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly;
• Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police;
• Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (circumstance of aggravation); and
• Obstructing Public Officers.
