In officially handing over the vehicle, DCO Cook commended the volunteers on their dedicated service to the community, especially throughout what has been a challenging fire season so far.

“I’d like to thank the Beaufort Fire Brigade and Group, for their continued commitment to protecting lives and property. Giving up both your personal and work lives to help not only your community, but communities within your region, throughout the state and interstate,” he said.

DCO Cook also spoke about the fires this season that affected the local area, including the Lexton and Brewster fires.

“The commitment and hard work by the local brigades this season led to the swift containment of many fires, with minimal damage to property.”

Captain, Colin Gerrard thanked the State Government for their contribution and for providing access to the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP).

The Beaufort Fire Brigade first purchased their own Command Vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, in 1993 with funds raised through community donations and the servicing of fire extinguishers.

The new vehicle is a Ford Ranger Dual Cab 4×4 with design features including stowage storage, whiteboards, additional 12v charging points with USB chargers, 12v to 240volt 1000W invertor, under-tray draw and fire extinguisher. The FCV also boasts vital firefighting cabin accessories including two Tait radios, portable radio charger, siren and UHF.

After the vehicle handover, DCO Cook presented service awards to John Forster and Robin Hill.
