Bec to Future

Members,

Tasmanians should prepare for another BecFlip as Labor continues to mislead the public over power price caps.

Tasmanian Treasurer Michael Ferguson said Labor promised to introduce a power price cap last time they were in government, and then promptly pulled the plug.

“The then Labor Treasurer, Michael Aird – now the Opposition Leader’s economic advisor – described price caps as a ‘cruel hoax’, Treasurer Ferguson said.

“Labor backflipped on a price cap in 2010 and they will Becflip again because it simply doesn’t work.

“A price cap would send energy retailers to the wall.

“It would have energy investors desert the state, putting at risk future expansion of the power network.”

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said you can’t have a price cap and supply energy growth.

“Labor knew it when they were last in government, and they know it now.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government’s Tasmania First Energy Guarantee is ensuring Tasmanians have the lowest power prices in the nation and among the highest power bill concessions.

“A typical concession customer will receive $880 per year off their power bill this year.

“The government has also recently introduced the Renewable Energy Dividend to ensure that when Hydro makes money, all Tasmanians save money.”

Labor can’t be trusted on power prices. Look at what they did, not what they say.
