Bec White opposes more houses

Jane Howlett, Liberal Member for Prosser

Labor has sided with the Greens to oppose more houses, and Bec White needs to start being honest.

Liberal Member for Prosser, Jane Howlett said if Ms White is as committed to helping Tasmanians own their own home as she claims to be, why is her party opposing the Rockliff Liberal Government’s planning reforms?

“Our Government’s planning reform will help provide more homes for Tasmanians by allowing some planning decisions to be made by independent expert panels,” Ms Howlett said.

“It will also help us to deliver our significant target of 10,000 homes by 2032, and meet Tasmania’s affordable housing needs, by reducing unnecessary delays.

“Ms White talks a big game about increasing housing supply, but Tasmanians won’t fall for the Opposition’s smoke and mirrors.

“We are builders, not blockers, and that is why we are developing reform that will make it easier to get major housing developments off the drawing board.

“While our Government is focussed on developing this much-needed reform to take the politics out of planning will Rebecca White and Labor try to do another deal with the Greens to stop development in Tasmania?

“Will they stop the creation of more houses for Tasmanians in need? Will they stop the creation of hundreds of construction jobs?

“The evidence is clear – only the Rockliff Liberal Government will take real action to get more homes built sooner.”
