We opened the doors to one of Melbourne’s most sophisticated road infrastructure hubs, inviting the public in for a glimpse.
As part of Open House Melbourne 2026, 150 curious visitors stepped inside our brand-new, state-of-the-art Freeway Control Centre (FCC) at Footscray.
The facility, which serves as the operational nerve centre for both CityLink and the West Gate Tunnel, was a highlight of this year’s program.
Meeting the minds behind the monitors
During the guided tours, visitors had the rare opportunity to see exactly what it takes to keep Melbourne moving safely and smoothly 24/7. Guests met our dedicated Traffic Control and Public Affairs teams, who showcased our cutting-edge traffic management technology in action.
Transforming Footscray’s industrial landscape
The tour didn’t just focus on screens and software. Visitors were also encouraged to explore the brand-new 2.8-hectare wetland and green space on Whitehall Street in Footscray.
Extending local greenery from the gardens to the Maribyrnong River, this space was created as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project to transform underutilised industrial land into a new place to rest and reflect.
