Better River Access And Facilities For Quambatook

VIC Premier

Labor is helping make a splash in Quambatook, delivering better facilities for locals and visitors.

Minister Settle today announced the completion of new facilities and water infrastructure along the Avoca River, supported through a $2 million investment.

Works at the Quambatook Weir have improved water management, helping maintain more consistent water levels, support local aquatic habitats and enhance opportunities for water-based recreation.

The upgrades will help more people get out on the water, with better access for boating, paddling and fishing.

Launching spots have been created along the river, as well as new fishing jetties and platforms.

New picnic facilities, seating and a fire pit will help families enjoy the outdoors, with newly planted trees near the water’s edge.

Public access to the river has also been improved with a new pedestrian bridge and paths connecting to the town’s centre, caravan parks and the local sports precinct.

The project created 15 jobs during construction, delivered in partnership with the Gannawarra Shire Council.

Just down the road at Wycheproof there’s more investment in nature-based experiences for the area, with the development of a 70,000 square-metre wetlands precinct.

Supported by the Regional Tourism Infrastructure Projects fund, the Wycheproof Wetlands project features restored wetlands, skate park, swimming pontoon and new visitor facilities.

Regional Victorians deserve access to the facilities and infrastructure they need to live, work and study in their communities, which is why we’ve invested more than $50 billion across regional Victoria over the past decade.

As stated by Minister for Regional Development Michaela Settle

“Regional development is about creating thriving communities, and these upgrades are transforming the Avoca River into a place where people can gather, connect and enjoy everything Quambatook has to offer.”

As stated by Minister for Tourism Natalie Suleyman

“The best tourism investments are the ones locals use every day. Better river access, walking connections and public facilities will strengthen community life while making the region more welcoming for visitors.”

As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Jacylyn Symes

“These new facilities and upgrades will ensure the Quambatook community and visitors now have even more reasons to head down to the beautiful Avoca River.”

As stated by Gannawarra Shire Council CEO Geoff Rollinson

“The Sustainable Recreational Water for Quambatook project has transformed the Avoca River precinct into a vibrant community space for recreation, connection and wellbeing.”
