Today I had the pleasure of attending the 2022 National History Challenge Presentation and share in honouring the best young Australian historians.
More than 4,000 students from 500 registered schools submitted entries this year.
Nektaria Toscas, a Year 11 student from Camberwell Girls Grammar School in Victoria, was named the 2022 Young Historian of the Year.
Her essay about European politics was a standout.
Nektaria and other category winners were recognised for their outstanding independent research and critical thinking skills.
The National History Challenge encourages students from primary school through to Year 12 to undertake inquiry-based research and present their findings through essays, multimedia presentations or museum exhibits.
The Australian Government is providing $568,000 to support the History Teachers’ Association of Australia to host the challenge over four years to 2025.
