The ACT Government is investing more than a billion dollars in public education facilities over the coming decade, from new schools and major renovations at existing schools through to state-of-the-art skills and training facilities.
Through the implementation of the ACT Government Education Infrastructure plan, we are making sure that every Canberra gets the learning and skills they need.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the infrastructure plan update outlines the biggest investment in education infrastructure in ACT Government history.
“As the Territory continues to grow, the ACT Government is making sure that every local school is a great school.”
Education Minister Yvette Berry said the Government’s long-term plans go even further.
“The ACT Government has a strong pipeline of investment in both new and expanded schools and colleges planned across Canberra to meet expected public school demand well into the future,” Minister Berry said.
“From the almost $100 million devoted to works at public schools as part of the Public School Infrastructure Renewal Program, roof replacements works in public schools across the city, infrastructure investment to support inclusive education or even planning work for future expansions of capacity in key growth areas – it’s clear that we are committed to ensuring every child can attend their local public school and know it is a great school with the infrastructure they need,” Minister Berry said.
“School communities all across Canberra will be receiving improved infrastructure as part of this Infrastructure Plan.
Minister for Skills, Chris Steel said the ACT Government is continuing to build new educational and skills facilities and upgrade our existing ones to meet the needs of our students, teachers and families into the future.
“We’re investing over $325 million to deliver a new CIT Campus in Woden. This transformational project will see new educational and community facilities built in a central, well-connected area, complemented by a new light rail enabled public transport interchange,” Minister Steel said.
“This project also includes the relocation of the CIT Yurauna Centre from the Reid campus to Bruce. The new centre will offer vocational training and support in literacy, numeracy and communication in a culturally sensitive environment, tailored to the need of First Nations people.
“We look forward to seeing this project provide positive and continuing impacts on the delivery of vocational education and training in the ACT”.
