BMX bandit arrested- Golden Grove, South Australia

A man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into several cars and stole a bicycle at Golden Grove overnight.

Just after 2am, Friday 21 February, police patrols were called to Oakridge Circuit following reports from residents of up to three people walking the streets looking into cars.

On police arrival they found two bikes in the street that appeared to be have been stolen and several cars open.

Golden Grove patrols set up cordons in the area and called in police dog patrols – PD Bandit and Havoc who searched nearby yards.

While the search was being conducted, the dog patrols flushed out a a man carrying a BMX, who strangely ran towards a patrol standing on a cordon point.

As the patrol officer went to detain the male – he threw the BMX bike at the officer and tried to run off. However he didn’t get far and was quickly arrested.

The 41-year-old man from Modbury has been charged with theft of the bike, three counts of illegal interference of vehicles, aggravated assault ( throwing the bike at police) and resisting arrest.

He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

A further search failed to locate any other suspects – police enquiries are continuing. The officer who was hit with the BMXbike received only minor scratches from the incident.
