A body has been found following a multi-agency search after a car submerged at the Royal National Park overnight.
About 1.15am today (Wednesday 6 May 2026), emergency services were called to a weir in the National Park, following reports a vehicle had gone underwater.
Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command were told a blue Audi sedan and a silver Mercedes sedan were travelling on Audley Road, near Riverside Road, Audley, before the blue sedan – with two men on board – left the roadway, entered the water and sank.
The driver – a 20-year-old man – escaped the vehicle; however his passenger – a man in his 20s – did not.
The driver, and the 18-year-old man driving the silver sedan, were subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result.
They were both taken to a hospital for a mandatory testing.
Police divers recovered the body of a man about 10.20am. The man is yet to be formally identified.
The vehicle has also been recovered and will be taken for forensic examination.
Police have established a crime scene and specialist officers from Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the incident.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
