Bonn Climate Change Conference concludes with strong plan for COP28

A Monash delegation recently attended the Bonn Climate Change Conference at the World Convention Centre in Bonn, Germany from 5 – 15 June.

The Bonn Climate Change Conference forms the basis for the COP28 agenda. COP28 will be held in November in Dubai.

The Monash delegation to SB58 was led by Associate Professor Susie Ho,who has led the Monash delegation to COP over the last four years, with delegates Sali Bache, Astra Rushton-Allan, Michael Dolan and Associate Professor Zerina Tomkins in virtual attendance.

Our leadership is demonstrated through our commitment to Net Zero, our research programs and our participation in globally influential climate action events, including as an Observer Organisation at the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP) since 2016.

During the Bonn Climate Change Conference, an ambitious agenda was set for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in November.

Debate between governments, educational institutions, youth platforms and Indigenous leaders bore fruit, with participants reaching some agreement on integrating Loss and Damage, Adaptation and the Global Stocktake into the COP28 agenda.

In addition to contributing to climate action conversation, Monash University and the Monitoring and Evaluating Climate Communication and Education Project helped lead a series of workshops, upskilling government and youth representatives from around the world in quality climate change education at the national level including through the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of global indicators.
