The two key documents that guide Wollongong City Council’s work for the next 12 months were adopted at Council tonight, Monday 29 June 2020.
The Operational Plan and Delivery Program, along with the Revenue Policy, Fees and Charges, and Infrastructure Delivery Program, set out what projects, initiatives and services we’re committed to delivering, and how they will be paid for.
“The past few months have been extraordinary ones and what is reflected in these plans is the impact Coronavirus has had on the way we work, how we live and the ways we socialise,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
The $800M infrastructure delivery program for the next four years includes additional investment in new and ongoing improvements to shared pathways, as well as recreational improvements like a BMX pump track, a criterion track and more accessible amenities.
Projects targeted in the plans include additional lengths of the Grand Pacific Walk, new playgrounds like the one identified in the Cringila Hills Masterplan, and community facilities like Warrawong Community Centre and Library.
Work on some additional projects, including cycleways, playgrounds and accessible amenities, will also be fast-tracked after Council received $3.7M grant funding boosts from the State and Federal Governments.
“Over the past 12 months Council has delivered some key and strategically important projects, including Karrara Bridge and its vital road network links, and community-focussed improvements like better pathways and accessible connections in public spaces. This Operational Plan and Delivery Program builds on that good work,” Cr Bradbery said.
“I think if there’s one thing that Coronavirus has provided our community it’s a greater sense of the value of public space and areas to exercise, socialise and enjoy. These Plans focus on ways to make these things of value even better – now and into the future.
”These are ambitious documents but this Council is focussed on delivering for our community and on making Wollongong an enviable place to live, work and play and that includes tackling the things our community told us they value like more cycleways and taking more action on climate change.”
