Council is inviting local Glenburn residents and users of Break O’Day Road to attend a meeting to hear an update on the Break O’Day Road Bridge Replacement Project.

Meeting details:

Time: 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm, Wednesday 5 April

Location: Glenburn Community Hall, 3876 Melba Highway, Glenburn

Council has received partial funding from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program to replace Break O’Day Road Bridge with a bridge that is compliant with current standards. The project will see the 1950s design, single-lane bridge replaced with a two-lane structure capable of supporting an unrestricted load rating.

Late last year, Council met with local residents and listened to their concerns regarding loss of access and longer commute times, based on Council’s proposal, which requires a full bridge closure of approximately 6 weeks to enable us to replace the bridge.

During the meeting, Council committed to exploring an alternative option to deliver the project, while retaining a level of access for residents and users of Break O’Day Road during the construction period.

Council has now investigated and considered another option, which comes at a significant extra cost and poses increased environmental risks. We would like the opportunity to discuss the viability of this option, and hear from the community, before Council decides on this matter later this month.
